Foster a Therapeutic Riding Horse

You can help support the kind, patient, generous animals who make our therapeutic riding program possible.  By fostering a therapeutic riding horse you are contributing to the feed, bedding, farrier and veterinary care of these special horses.

Donors will be sent a picture and description of their chosen horse, and be recognized in that horse’s biography on the “Meet Our Horses” page of our website.   We have a total of 10 horses in our program, many of whom are still available!  For example  .  .  .

Shorty

Presidente

Presidente’s striking black and white coat is what most people notice first about him.  Once you spend any time around him, however, you see that his gentle and careful nature is what really stands out.   Before coming to us, Presidente was a polo pony for beginners in Lakeside.  Since joining our program, we have been able to trust him with any level of rider.  He is often the horse we use to evaluate new riders to the program.  Presidente is extremely trustworthy, which allows students to explore more independent riding.

Dalton

Dalton

The biggest horse of our equine team, Dalton is a 16 year old warmblood who came to us after breaking his ankle in a turn-out accident.  The injury ended his successful show jumping career, but excellent veterinary care has left him more than able to participate in our program.  A ‘gentle giant,’ Dalton is unflappable in lessons, and can be used in many different lessons, from someone needing very involved help, to the independent rider refining their position and control without the assistance of leaders or sidewalkers.

These are just a few of the amazing horses of the Helen Woodward Animal Center Therapeutic Riding Program.  Our program could not exist without them.  Follow this link to learn how you can foster a horse, and make a difference, not just in their life, but in the lives of the many special needs riders touched by these special horses.
