An evening in the "Blue Dog Lounge" raised $379,000!
Rancho Santa Fe, CA - Pygmy goats, a llama named Sparky, Tommy the sheep, and a litter of puppies greeted guests to Helen Woodward Animal Center's 18th annual "Spring Fling" fundraiser on Saturday June 3. A martini luge, exciting auctions, and a special appearance by artist George Rodrigue highlighted "Blue Dog Lounge - Where the SohpistiCats are Seen" at the Fairbanks Village Plaza. The event netted an all-time high $348,000 to support the services that Helen Woodward Animal Center provides throughout the year.
"We had to increase the number of inner circle seats in the Platinum Dog section," says Spring Fling Chair Debra Saum. "The crowd of 450 animal lovers spent an evening in our 'Blue Dog Lounge' enjoying food from 19 of the area's best restaurants, fine wines, and a Champagne and Chocolate bar! Guests had a great time as they supported the animals and people that Helen Woodward Animal Center serves."
"Congratulations to Christine Penrod who placed the winning bid on a George Rodrigue painting created especially for the Spring Fling," says HWAC Special Events Supervisor Amy Van Atta. "And we thank Dianne and Dirk Stump and Marianne Harmon for their winning bids for trips to Puerto Vallarta. They helped to make this the best Spring Fling we've ever had!"
KUSI-TV's Bridget Naso and Daniel Plante returned to do a terrific job as Spring Fling hosts. Restaurant critic Jack White once again accepted the difficult task to judge the food and presentation by San Diego's finest restaurants and caterers. "Villa Capri" was judged best food with "Blackhorse Grill" receiving honorable mention. "Catering by Barry Layne" was judged best presentation with "The Bridges" awarded honorable mention. Dance music was performed until midnight by NRG".
Proceeds from the Spring Fling support the programs that Helen Woodward Animal Center provides for people and animals in the community. Plans are already underway for the June, 2007 Spring Fling. The theme of the event is yet to be determined.
Saum thanks the Toby Wells Foundation, Presenting Sponsor of the Spring Fling and Tucker-Sadler Architects, Big Dog Sponsor. "They generously support Helen Woodward Animal Center year round. We're honored to call them our friends."
