Attention Moms! Give an Orphaned Mom a Home this Mother’s Day Weekend!
Rancho Santa Re, CA – Mommy Cats left alone now that their babies have been adopted are waiting for their families to find them this Mother’s Day weekend. Helen Woodward Animal Center is dropping adoption fees on all Mommy cats and offering incentives to encourage families to Give A Mother A Home. And this Mother’s Day weekend any “Human Mom” who adopts an adult cat 1 year old or older will pay half the adoption fee.
“Kitten season is beginning and that can result in a long wait for older cats,” says HWAC spokesman John Van Zante. “We’re not talking about geriatric cats here. Some of them are less than one year old. But in the springtime when many families come in to adopt a pair of kittens, the adult cats go unnoticed.”
Adoptions Manager LaBeth Thompson says that the likelihood of the more-mature cats being adopted anytime soon gets smaller every day. “This past couple weeks our first kittens of the season became available for adoption. They’ve all gone home with their new families, but their mothers are still here. It seems unfair that the babies will spend Mother’s Day in their new homes while their mothers will spend the day in cages.”
Van Zante adds that, “These are some sweet, good-natured cats. Some are barely older than kittens themselves. A few arrived at Helen Woodward Animal Center expecting litters. Others arrived here with their babies. But now they’re ready to go home.”
Thompson emphasizes that the Mommy Cats will be great pets. “All they need is a chance. These are loving, nurturing pets. They’ve done their jobs as parents and now it’s their turn to have someone take care of them. That’s not too much to ask.”
Helen Woodward Animal Center will cut adoption fees in half for all Mommy Cats this Friday, May 9 through Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 11. And any Human Moms who adopt an adult cat one year old or older will pay half the regular adoption fee.
