Avast Ye Salty Dogs! Pet Rescue Day on the Bay a “howling” success!
The 7 th annual “Pet Rescue Day on the Bay” on Thursday, May 17 th was a huge success! Once again Hornblower Cruises and Events at 1066 North Harbor Drive in San Diego stepped forward to help orphaned animals. To participate in the event animal lovers donated their new or gently used blankets or towels to Helen Woodward Animal Center ( HWAC). In return they enjoyed a free 1-hour Hornblower Harbor Cruise.!
“Anyone who donated a blanket or towel to Helen Woodward Animal Center received a ticket for a 1-hour Hornblower cruise,” says HWAC spokesman John Van Zante . “Those who used their tickets on May 17 could take their dogs along. Each dog had to agree to play well with others and keep its owner on a leash!”
Hornblower’s Rebecca Milkey explains, “Our one hour Big Bay Cruises depart at 10 am, 11:15 am, 12:30 pm, 1:45 pm, 3 pm, and 4:15 pm. Passengers who take the 10, 12:30, and 3 o’clock cruises pass by the Sea Lions on our North Bay route.”
”This was a great opportunity to enjoy San Diego Bay ,” says Port Chairwoman Sylvia Rios. “What could be better than a relaxing cruise with man’s---and woman’s--- best friend?”
Pet Rescue Day on the Bay grows each year and Van Zante says several organizations stepped forward to “lend a helping paw”. This year’s event received a leg-up from PETCO, Frosty Paws Frozen Treats for Dogs, and the Port of San Diego .
“Each year Hornblower Cruises and Events raises the bar to create a bigger and better Pet Rescue Day on the Bay.” says Van Zante. “ This year we raise three van-loads of towels and blankets as well as some cash donations. Our sincere thanks to Hornblower for their generosity.”
