This is gonna’ get UGLY! “Ugliest Dog” to be named this Sunday 

Rancho Santa Fe, CA – San Diego’s, “Ugliest Dog” will be named this Sunday during the 15th annual Del Mar Kiwanis and Children’s Fund of Greater Del Mar, “Ugly Dog Contest” at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Judging for the 14 categories will run from 11 AM to 3 PM.   

Other categories include: Best St. Patrick’s Day costume

                        Cutest dog (adult & children 16 and under)

                        Dog that looks most like its owner

                        Best trick 

                        Cutest puppy

                        Most unusual markings

                        Best costume (adult & children 16 and under)

                        Best mutt

                        Most beautiful female dog

                        Most handsome male dog

                        And the, “Adopt Me Please!” category for adoptable dogs.  

Cost for (human) admission is $8 for adults and $2 for children 12 and under. Dog registration and check in run from 10 – 11 am. The cost to enter your dog is $6.00 per entry per category or 4 entries for $20. Dog event registration can also be done online.  

Helen Woodward Animal Center spokesman John Van Zante says, “We know that every dog is beautiful. The contest is just for fun and proceeds help three worthy causes.” 

The 15th annual Ugly Dog Contest presented by the Del Mar Kiwanis will benefit the Therapeutic Riding Program at Helen Woodward Animal Center, the Animal Safe House Program at Rancho Coastal Humane Society, and Friends of Del Mar Parks. Van Zante points out, “These programs reach out to help animals and people.”
