Summer 2011
PreK- 6th Grade
Critter Camp Daily Themes:
Exploration Station: This is a day of exploring animal adaptations and how they help animals survive in lots and lots of environments. Children will meet and discover how each animal -such as a cockatiel, a guinea pig, a snake, a miniature horse, and a skink- has unique adaptations to survive in their habitats.
Going Green: A Tropical Paradise: We are raising environmental and animal awareness in a global fashion among our campers. We discuss endangered/threatened animals, how and why their numbers have dwindled, and how we can help. Animals they may meet this day include a frog, a parrot, a bearded dragon, and a dog. We want campers to realize how large an impact we have on the earth, and on the animals we share it with.
Movin’ & Groovin’: Using their powers of observation and deduction, campers will learn all about animal locomotion. They will learn all about how turtles, rats, snakes, sheep, and cockroaches move and groove!
Summertime Oasis: We love summertime so much, we thought we would dedicate an entire day to having fun in the sun! Campers will learn about how goats, dogs, walking sticks, and hermit crabs celebrate summertime. We will also make a stop over at our Adoptions Department.
The Amazing Race: Life is a competition for our local wildlife. Who finds the tastiest, most nutritious food? Who finds the safest, comfiest place to live? It all depends on who has the best adaptations for the habitats in our backyard! We’ll investigate how rabbits, doves, geckos, cats, and desert tortoises secure their place in this amazing race.
*Animal interaction is dependent upon animal health on a day-to-day basis.
*Activities are age-specific.
