Programs for Toddlers, Preschoolers, & Playgroups

Explore the jungles and deserts on an African safari and meet a parrot or cockroach…or go down under in Australia and meet a skink or a cockatiel…design a customized, private tour for your playgroup and meet animals from around the world…all without leaving San Diego!

We believe in the importance of introducing children to animals at an early age. Our programs provide a safe, early, positive experience which provides a strong foundation for becoming a responsible person, respectful of all living things.

As they meet a variety of animals, your children will learn and explore. They mimic the compassion modeled by the teacher and you, the parent.

Pet Pals

Our Pet Pals program is a one hour tour designed especially for playgroups! This is a great opportunity to change your playgroup's pace and atmosphere while meeting three of our animal ambassadors!

Cost: 1 hr- $7.00/child ($50.00 non-refundable deposit required to reserve tour)

First Friends

Introducing your child to animals

REGISTRATION FORM

First Friends is an exciting parent-participation class for children ages 3 to 6 years. First Friends uses fun activities to introduce children to animals in a safe environment. Children will learn how to be compassionate and respectful towards animals. Maximum 2 children per participating adult.

Each class includes meeting three of our animal ambassadors, a craft, game, and a snack break.

Classes are held Thursday & Friday: 10 - 11:30am.

Cost: 1.5 hrs- $17.00/child

Prepaid enrollment is required for all classes. Return the registration form to the Education Dept. (education@animalcenter.org) or contact the Education Office to register today!

Custom First Friends

Not able to attend a Thursday or Friday First Friends class? Want to have a private first friends class for your playgroup or your family and select your own theme? Reserve a customized first friends tour!

Each class includes meeting three of our animal ambassadors, a craft, game, and a snack break.

Cost: A $50 non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your tour, and includes payment for 3 children. Each additional child is $15/child. Maximum 15 children per tour.

Early Explorations

The Early Explorations outreach program is a series of four, 50 minute classes: Mammals, Birds, Reptiles and Amphibians. At the end of the series children will be able to....

Tell at least one identifying characteristic each of a mammal, reptile, bird and amphibian.
Have an opportunity to touch a variety of artifacts and animals.
Demonstrate compassion and gentleness toward animals.

Cost: $125/class or $400 for a series of 4 classes. Custom programs are also available.
