7th - 8th Leadership Camp Daily Themes:
Our 7th & 8th grade campers will focus on volunteering and career opportunities with animals, animal education, leadership training, and learning how to assist with younger campers. This is a bridging opportunity to our Junior Volunteer program where participants must be 13 years old.
How Can I Help You? Campers will learn about our Pet Encounter Therapy and AniMeals Departments, which provide comfort and pet food services to the community. They will meet some of our very own therapy animal rockstars, such as a Skink, a Cat, a Guinea Pig, a Snake, and an Umbrella Cockatoo.
Home is Where the Heart Is: Pets provide us with an amazing service… unconditional friendship and love; and it is our job to keep them healthy, happy, and safe. This day, our 7th & 8th graders will determine what is needed to become a responsible pet owner through learning about our Adoptions Department and Veterinary Information. They will meet a variety of pets, such as a chinchilla, a turtle and a dove; and will also help with Puppy Socialization.
Out in the Pasture: Horses, goats, sheep, rabbits, and snakes….these are all animals that you could find on a farm. While interacting with these animals, campers will get an up close and personal look at our Equine Hospital and Therapeutic Riding Program.
Education Station: First stop…the Education Department! What do we do in Education besides Critter Camp? Our campers will learn all about the animals, programs, and volunteer opportunities in Education, while meeting our Education Ambassadors. These ambassadors include a dog, a tortoise, a bearded dragon, and a cockroach! Second stop…the PR department, where they will learn all about how important our relationship is with the public media. They will even get a chance to practice their public speaking skills at camp!
Going Green: A Tropical Paradise! We are raising environmental and animal awareness in a global fashion among our campers. We discuss endangered/threatened animals, how and why their numbers have dwindled, and how we can help. Animals they may meet this day include a frog, the Walking Sticks, a Hermit Crab, a gecko, and a cockatiel. We want campers to realize how large an impact we have on the earth, and on the animals we share it with.
