My Pet Rocks! Rules 


    How to Enter

    To enter the contest, follow these 3 easy steps.  These steps ask you to submit certain information about your pet and about yourself, and upload your photograph.  The requested information includes brief responses to questions about your pet.  To be accepted into the Contest, you must provide all the requested information. 

    Submitted images and written responses must be original creations of the entrant.  By entering the contest, the entrant warrants that the photograph and description submitted are original, that they are the sole owner and copyright holder of that photograph and description, and that they have not granted exclusive rights of that photograph to any other person or entity.  The entrant also warrants that the photograph does not invade the right of privacy of any individual; does not infringe any trademark, trade name, trade secret, intellectual property right, or other common law or statutory right; nor does it contain any material that otherwise violates any criminal prohibition or the personal proprietary rights of any individual. 

    Written descriptions must be in English.  Helen Woodward Animal Center reserves the right to reject any Contest submission if it does not meet the eligibility requirements described later in these Rules, or for any other reason at our sole discretion.  If your entry is rejected, it will be removed from the Contest website and you will be notified by email. 

    You must complete a separate registration for every photo you wish to enter.  Keep in mind that you cannot combine votes from separate photos/entries.  You must use the process described here to enter the Contest.  We are sorry but we will discard any photos sent to us by email or by U.S. Mail.  Once submitted, your entry cannot be deleted from the My Pet Rocks! Contest. 

    All entries must be submitted by 5 PM Pacific Time on Monday July 26, 2010.  Voting for the contest ends at midnight, Pacific Time, on Saturday July 31, 2010.  Please be advised that winners are determined by vote counts as of midnight on the 31st.  If a vote does not register at that time it will not be counted. 

    Eligibility

    The Contest is subject to all applicable national, federal, and local laws and regulations.  Void where prohibited.  Contestants who are 13 and under on May 1, 2010, may participate in the contest with their parents’ or guardians’ assistance.   

    Eligible Pets

    The Contest is limited to the following pets:  dog, cat, rabbit, certain equines, hamster, gerbil, guinea pig, mouse, rat, and birds.  Ferrets, wild animals who are either captured in the wild or bred in captivity, and other types of animals, such as those commonly kept as farm animals, are ineligible to be entered into this contest.  (We allow the following types of equines:  horses, burros, donkeys, mules, and miniature horses; no other equine types are eligible). 

    No photos with people are allowed. 

    We reserve the right to remove any image from the contest that are hunting-related, including game, dead animals etc. 

    Eligible Images

    Any image that includes content that is deemed inappropriate, indecent, or obscene, as determined by the staff of Helen Woodward Animal Center in their sole discretion, will be removed from the Contest.  Any image of dead animals will be removed from the Contest.  While Helen Woodward Animal Center will remove images at our discretion, we don’t always condone the treatment depicted in the images or described in the stories. 

    How the Donate-to-Vote Process Works

    Your pet will receive an initial 25 votes (1 vote per $1) during the entry process.  After you submit your entry, you will have the opportunity to ask your friends and family members to donate-to vote by sending them the URL for your entry.   

    Your friends and family can purchase one vote credit for every $1 they donate to support Helen Woodward Animal Center and our programs.  Voters must purchase a minimum of 5 vote credits ($5 donation). 

    How the Winners are Determined

    At the end of the contest, the five photos with the most votes, will receive full pages in the Helen Woodward Animal Center 2011 calendar.  The remaining photos will be made into either calendar squares or montage photos depending on the number of votes received.  All photos will appear in the calendar.   If you raise a minimum of $100 for your photo, you will receive a free calendar. 

    Additional Prizes

    In addition to securing a place in our 2011 calendar we have a number of additional prizes. 

      • Everyone who raises a minimum of $150 will receive a $10 gift card to Starbucks or Target (your choice).
      • Everyone who raises a minimum of $200 will receive a $25 gift card to Petsmart or Target (your choice)

    Note that people who make donations above these amounts to someone else’s photo will not receive the gift card.  Gift cards are only distributed to contest entries.  Gift cards will be distributed at the end of the contest (during August 2011) and only one gift card per entry.  If your photo raises over $200 you will receive only one gift card of your choice. 

    Drawing #1

    Everyone who has raised a minimum of $200 for their photo by midnight on May 31, 2010 will be entered in a drawing.  The winner has the choice of one of three prizes:  a free weekend (2 night stay) at Club Pet for one pet, a $200 gift card to Pawsitively Pets Store at Helen Woodward Animal Center, or a $200 gift card for Target (your choice).  The drawing will take place the week of May 31st and the winner will be notified by email no later than June 7, 2010.  If the winner chooses the weekend at Club Pet, the weekend must be used within one year of receipt and is subject to availability.  No purchase necessary on Drawing #1.  Suggested donation $200 per photo. 

    Drawing #2

    Everyone who has raised a minimum of $300 for their photo by midnight on June 30, 2010 will be entered into a drawing to win one of three prizes:  a free 8 week session of your choice with San Diego Pet Training, a $300 gift card to Pawsitively Pet Store at Helen Woodward Animal Center, or a $300 gift card for Target (your choice).  If the winner selects the San Diego Pet Training Session, the pet must meet the requirements set forth by San Diego Pet Training and the winner must sign up directly with San Diego Pet Training.  No purchase necessary on Drawing #2.  Suggested donation $300 per photo. 

    All entrants are eligible for both drawings as long as the entry has the required votes. 

    “Pet of the Year”

    The photo that has the most votes at the end of the contest will be the “Pet of the Year” and be featured in the next issue of The Companion, on our website, and will be given the opportunity to participate on-air in Helen Woodward Animal Center’s Telethon in November 2010. 


    Tracking your Pet’s Progress

    Use of Images

    When you enter the contest you warrant that the photograph is original, that you are the sole owner and copyright holder of that photograph, and that you have not granted exclusive rights of that photograph to any other person or entity.  You also warrant that the photograph does not invade the rights of privacy of any individual, does not infringe on any trademark, trade name, trade secret, intellectual property right, or other common law or statutory right; nor does it contain any material that otherwise violates any criminal prohibition or the personal or proprietary rights of any person or entity. 

    Grant rights in conjunction with the Contest.  By entering the contest, you also agree to grant to HWAC, its legal representatives, successors, and assigns, the nonexclusive rights and permission to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, and distribute the photograph or any portion thereof, throughout the world, in any printed form and by any kind of mechanical or electronic or any other method or device of reproduction, publication, and distribution known or later developed, during the full term of the copyright, and without notification or payment, as part of and in conjunction with our My Pet Rocks! Calendar Contest.  Helen Woodward Animal Center will never sell the responses or rights in the responses to any individual or entity and agrees to attribute authorship and copyright ownership to you when it publishes and distributes the responses you submitted. 

    Grants of Rights for Additional Purposes.  By checking the appropriate box in Step 1 of the Contest entry process, you also agree to grant to Helen Woodward Animal Center, its legal representatives, successors, and assigns, the nonexclusive right and permission to use, modify, adapt, reproduce, publish, and distribute the photograph, or any portion thereof, throughout the world, in any printed form and by any kind of mechanical or electronic or other method or device of reproduction, publication, and distribution known or later developed, during the full term of the copyright and without notification or payment.  Helen Woodward Animal Center agrees that it will never sell the photograph or rights in the photograph to any individual or entity. 

    Use of Descriptions

    When you enter Helen Woodward Animal Center’s My Pet Rocks! Contest, you warrant that the responses you provide to the entry questions are original, that you are the sole author and copyright holder of those responses, and that you have not granted exclusive rights of those responses to any other person or entity.  You also warrant that the responses contain no defamatory material or injurious instructions; does not invade the right of privacy of any individual; does not infringe any trademark, trade name, trade secret, intellectual property right, or other common law or statutory right; nor does it contain any material that otherwise violates any criminal prohibition or the personal or proprietary rights of any person or entity. 

    You also agree to grant to HWAC, its legal representatives, successors, and assigns, the nonexclusive rights and permission to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, and distribute the responses or any portion thereof, throughout the world, in any printed form and by any kind of mechanical or electronic or any other method or device of reproduction, publication, and distribution known or later developed, during the full term of the copyright, and without notification or payment, as part of and in conjunction with our My Pet Rocks! Contest.  Helen Woodward Animal Center will not use your responses for any purpose not connected with this contact and will never sell the responses or rights in the responses to any individual or entity.  Helen Woodward Animal Center agrees to attribute authorship and copyright ownership to you when it publishes and distributes the responses you submitted. 

    Limitation of Liability

    Helen Woodward Animal Center is not responsible for printing, typographical, human or other errors of any kind in any Contest-related materials, or for stolen, lost, late misdirected, damaged, incomplete, or illegible entries.
