Please help, we need food!

It is such fun to play!  To run in and out of the logs, jumping over them and using them to hide under!  They can pounce on their siblings as they go by and then start a game of chase.  It is such fun to play.

But not so much fun to have that same woodpile be their home.  The wood that made a great place for games is not so good for sleeping.  The ground is soggy and it is cold under there.  Little icy droplets of dew collect and fall, creating damp patches on their fur.  Even with their mother and siblings to huddle with, sleep is fitful.  A couple times people tried to catch them, but they are scared and wriggle deeper into the logs, away from people’s hands.

When they were nursing, they were not hungry, but now they are on the lookout constantly for a bite to eat.  They steal food from the garbage and if they are lucky enough, they find a plate of dog food left out.

When the Center heard about the litter of puppies living outside in a woodpile, we immediately made arrangements to have them brought to us.  Luckily there was an experienced rescuer who managed to corral the pups and settle them down before their long drive down to us.

The puppies were all colors, from white to brindle to black and tan.  They were a little scared at first with all the new people and things to see, but once they understood that we were there to help them, they began to wag their stubby tails and calm down.  We treated them for the parasites they had and they began to gain weight.  With the healthy food, medical care and constant love, they became the cute little friendly puppies we knew they could be.

Once they were altered, they were put up for adoption.  It was so enjoyable to watch them run and play with their toys in their kennel.  They romped and ran, with no care in the world.  Within a few days, all these little ones had gone to their forever homes.  Never again would they have to huddle together, shivering on the damp ground.  Never again would they have to worry about when they would be getting their next meal.  These little orphans would now be living the good life and we are pleased to have had a hand in the new chapter of their lives.
