Timmy and Teddy
Baseball is a fond, first memory for many people that live in this country. However, that was not the case with Timmy and Teddy, two puppies that were abandoned in a locked up baseball field.
There were no baseball fans that day. No cheering or clapping. There were no lingering smells of popcorn or hot dogs. The only movement that day was that of the stale, hot wind loitering through the empty seats. It was deathly hot… temperatures could reach over 110 degrees at this ballpark, located in the desert, north of Lancaster, Ca.
The two puppies crouched in the meager shade, their tan coats blending into the dirt of the infield. As the sun climbed higher in the sky, their shade began to dwindle. There was no water to be had, no food, and now, no respite from the desert sun.
The ballpark was closed for a reason: it was just too hot to play. Soon the puppies would be at the heat’s mercy, and in the desert, in July, the heat is not known to be very merciful.
Thankfully, some local citizens discovered the puppies and a good Samaritan vet tech was summoned to the rescue. The tech coaxed and called. She did all she could to catch and rescue the two puppies from the heat. However, in their fear from their previous abandonment, they continued to evade her for four hours, the heat sucking the energy from their tiny bodies.
After four hours in the hot sun, the vet tech finally managed to safely catch the puppies. Now that is devotion! The puppies were taken to a local animal sanctuary to receive food, water, and TLC and were then transferred, via a rescue partner, to Helen Woodward Animal Center, on July 7th.
Timmy and Teddy are both adorable Shepherd-Corgi mixes and both love to engage with activity going on around them. Their sad past has not affected them at all. They both enjoy the usual things that puppies love to do: romping, playing, being too cute for their own good…
We’re happy to report that Timmy and Teddy were adopted within days of their arrival. We’re so excited that they have now found their forever homes! Congratulations Timmy and Teddy!
