Saved from an overcrowded home…..
Together the three Pomeranians weighed in at just over 20 pounds. We had cats at the Center that were bigger than they were. But these three tiny dogs had big hearts and were true survivors. Their resiliency and sweet natures shone through even with their rough start in life.
Panda, Keoke and Polar Bear were brought to us from a rescue in the Los Angeles area. They had responded to a call from a local animal control agency about a hoarding situation. Most hoarding cases are heartbreaking and this one was especially so.
The house contained many, many Pomeranians of all ages and health. Some were so fearful they cowered when people approached. Their coats were matted and dirty. While the team was investigating the house they found also over a hundred cats, a room full of chickens and a large snake. Obviously, none of these animals got the attention, love and care that they should have. They deserve to be treated as special individual lives that are part of a family. The animals were rescued by various agencies. We got the call from one to see if we could take some of the Pomeranians and we immediately set up a time for them to come down.
When they arrived, the dogs were very scared and withdrawn. They were not leash trained and not used to being handled. We spent extra time making them feel comfortable and settling them in to their new temporary home. Quite soon they began to run to the kennel gate when we arrived, their bushy tails wagging. They loved to be carried around and pampered.
Keoke and Polar Bear got adopted quickly as they were the younger of the group. They are doing well in their new homes, adjusting and becoming more and more outgoing. Little Panda is still waiting to be adopted. We are sure she will soon find her forever home. She has come too far and gone through too much not to.
