Feisty

Saved after cigarette burn and other abuse

Cowering in fear and pain, the tiny blonde puppy slowly tried to crawl away from the man.  The puppy didn’t understand why the man would hurt him.  The puppy’s ear was bleeding from where the man had tried to pierce it, but the worst was yet to come.

The 3 month old puppy had not had an easy life.  His owner had quite a few dogs and puppy was often lost in the shuffle.  The owner also had some medical problems and sometimes he did not get the care he needed.  Sometimes the people at the house were loud and rough.  The puppy had learned to steer clear of them, but he wasn’t always quick enough and tonight was one of those nights.

The man and his friend got even rougher and the terrified puppy began to cry.  This seemed to enrage the man and he yelled at him to stop, emphasizing his words by putting the tip of his burning cigarette on the body of the now shrieking puppy.

Little Feisty came to us from a rescue in northern California who had been called by his owner.  She realized she could no longer care for or protect her cherished pets and tearfully surrendered them in the hopes they would have a better life elsewhere.  The rescue was full with animals and did not have the space to house more.

Even with all this early trauma, Feisty was a playful, friendly puppy, weighing in at just under 5 pounds.  When we met him, he was wriggling happily in his kennel, excited to meet us and showing no signs that he had been so badly abused.  There was a little hair missing from his ears from the attempted piercings and some missing on his side from the cigarette, but he was otherwise in good shape.

We renamed him Rudolph and he became everyone’s favorite.  Since he was so small, we kept him in an inside crate and he loved to watch the people go by.  Everyone thought he was the cutest little puppy and he got lots of attention.  Finally his forever family saw him and knew he was the special boy they had been looking for.

We are so happy that we were able to be involved in turning this little guy’s life around.  Rudolph will receive a lifetime of love and care with his new family and that is just what he deserves!
